Take A Ride Down Pico Boulevard

Old photos newly shared with Pico Revitalization Project shed light on our boulevard during the 1950s, including a shot from inside the Pico Streetcar.

Visit our Photo Gallery to take your virtual ride down Pico Boulevard.

We thank former local resident Joe Parker for sharing these photos.

Jane Blumenfeld, Principal Planner and Division Manager from the LA City Planning Department and Beth Steckler, Policy Director at Livable Places (www.livableplaces.org) were the guest presenters, and CD 10 Councilman Elect, Martin Ludlow spoke at the end of the meeting.

Five Awards From Neighborhood Matching Fund
Pico Revitalization Project facilitated the application of Neighborhood Matching Grants for five neighborhood groups that reside along Pico Boulevard. Each grant, which is awarded by the City of Los Angeles Board of Public Works, includes up to $5,000, matched by $5,000 worth of volunteer hours donated by community members. The community groups who applied and each received the award are:
  • Wilshire Vista Neighborhood Association
  • Picfair Villiage
  • South Carthay Neighborhood Association
  • Wilshire Vista Heights
  • PICO Neighborhood Council

Each neighborhood group will use the award to install a community kiosk on a portion of Pico Boulevard within their specific neighborhood boundaries. The five kiosks will be uniform in look and design, but the content on each will be relevant to the particular neighborhood where it resides.

Currently volunteers from each community group have been holding regular meetings along with local architects who are donating their time to help design and plan the installation of the kiosks. If you have any questions regarding the kiosk project contact your local neighborhood group or info@picoproject.org.

An Example of What We Do:

One of our first initiatives includes working with the Targeted Neighborhood Initiative (TNI) in allocating funds to improve Pico Corridor. Two types of improvement are currently underway: 1) Streetscape improvement, which includes both TNI sponsored projects and community based initiatives; 2) Facade improvements for commercial buildings. One of the first facade improvements is slated for The Comedy Union, which recently opened at 5040 Pico Boulevard.     An Example of How the City of Los Angeles Supports Pico Revitalization

Operation Healthy Neighborhoods (OHN) is a city wide program sponsored by Mayor Hahn's Office, and it's coming to Pico Boulevard!

OHN combines the resources of the Mayor's Office, local Council offices, Departments of the City (such as Public Works, Building & Safety, and more) to fight crime, physical blight and environmental issues.

Visit the area of our website devoted to Operation Healthy Neighborhoods to learn exactly how it works, and who to contact with your concerns about Pico Boulevard.

What is the Pico Revitalization Project?

This is a volunteer effort of local citizens and their neighborhood organizations (including both P.I.C.O Neighborhood Council and SoRo Neighborhood Council) to improve the quality of life along Pico Boulevard.

The Project focuses on the stretch of Pico Boulevard between La Brea and Beverwil. Participants in this organization participate in a monthly forum discussing ways to beautify the street. Efforts are underway to document the existing composition of the Boulevard and make presentations using this data to other public organizations, city officials and private organizations who have the financial, grassroot and/or political power to take action.
